Editorial question. ‘Rich Chemical’ LLC has been on the road construction materials market for many years. How does the company live today?
Rich Chemical's response:
Since 2009, our company has been developing not only as a production center but also as a full-cycle engineering center.
Our key products:
* Anhydrous “FF bitumen gel-like emulsion”
* Cold organo-mineral mixture (COMM),
* Polymer-acrylic repair compound “CARBON”
* Deicing reagents “Ace Axe”
* Hot and cold road marking plastics and paint.
All technological solutions are based on our own design and patents. The production area is situated at Dubna Free Economic Zone in Moscow Region. The tests are carried out in our own certified laboratory and in cooperation with Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University. Experimental sites have been created with the participation and cooperation with such authoritative institutions as “JSC Mostotrest”, JSC “DSK” “Avtoban” and GC “Avtodor”.
Question. Why is the recycling of RAP becoming a new standard in the road construction nowadays?
Answer. According to the February 2025 conference at Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University with the participation of V. P. Petushenko, Chairman of the Board of “Avtodor Group of Companies”, more than 300 thousand tons of asphalt granulate have already been accumulated in the country, and in 2025 the volume of milled pavement will exceed 1 million tons. Our mission is to turn these wastes into resources. The adding of “FF Emulsion” into RAP makes it possible to create a cold organomineral mixture (with 50-90% RAP) without energy consumption for heating. There are no analogues of the anhydrous “FF bitumen gel-like emulsion” in the Russian Federation, as well as the technology of producing cold organomineral mixture (COMM) based on “FF” (the technology is developed together with Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University). The technology has already been included in the registry of “Avtodor Group of Companies”. (STO 41982914-012-2023).
Question. What are the advantages of using COMM in practice?
Answer. 1. Plant mobility: the production of COMM is possible directly at the RAP warehouse or on the site of road construction; no need for asphalt plant construction.
2. Saving money: reduction of total costs by 30 percent or more (energy, logistics, inert materials).
3. A year-round production: road construction process is possible at -10...+40 °C.
4. Ecology: reduction of CO2 emissions; usage of up to 90% of recyclables (RAP, slags, ash residues).
Question. What is the technical difference between COMM and the classic "cold asphalt" produced using hot technologies?
Answer. “FF emulsion” is anhydrous, does not delaminate, and it is stored for 36 months. The addition of 1.5 – 2.5% of “FF” to fractional RAP activates the "dormant" bitumen, forming a new highly adhesive binder. The produced mixture (COMM) does not stick together, does not require heating or preheating. The process of laying asphalt mixture is simple: it is compacted by a roller or a vibrating plate. The car movement can be opened immediately after the laying. Coating operating temperature range is from -30 up to +40 degrees above Centigrade.
N.B. While asphalt laying, it is not necessary to protrude the bases and edges of the road coating with bitumen primers.
Question. How does the technology fit into the standards and methods of rejuvenation of road surfaces?
Answer. The State Standards of the Russian Federation for road marking prescribe regular restoration of asphalt wear layer or the top layer of asphalt. ‘FF emulsion’ can be used as a road impregnation material (RIM) in accordance with the Standard “ODM 218.3.073-2016”. The main characteristics and advantages:
* consumption: 0,1 – 0,60 kg/m2,
* frequency of processing: once every three years or less, depending on the traffic intensity
* how it works: penetration into pores, restoration of bitumen elasticity, sealing microcracks.
The technological process in brief: “FF emulsion” is sprayed onto the road, then a layer of 1-1.5 cm of cold asphalt (COMM) is applied and compacted by road vehicles - a roller or a vibrating plate. That prolongs the coating life by 3-6 years without milling. Thus, with a regular usage, the service life of the roadways increases up to 24 years without major repairs.
Process in brief: cleaning the surface of the road, emulsion impregnation, distribution of the COMM- mixture for 3-5 hours and immediate opening of the car movements. The method is recommended for I–III road category with a traffic intensity of more than 2,300 vehicles per day.
Question. How does the market and government customers react?
Answer. The demand is growing: the regional authorities are already including COMM in road construction recommendations, some of the large road contraction companies are considering to build local mini-lines for COMM production at RAP storage sites. The most appreciated points are: the extensions of possibilities for repair activities, a long storage period (COMM with ‘FF’ emulsion does is not caked for 12 months and more), the possibility of repairing roads without heavy machinery.
In addition, the asphalt restoration technology using ‘FF’ emulsion was highly appreciated by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives as part of the review of the Rich Chemical application for the Strong Ideas for a New Age Forum held in August 2025
Question. What is ‘CARBON’?
Answer. ‘CARBON’ is a three—component polymer-acrylic ultrafast curing system (20 min at +15 °C). It is designed for preventive repair of cracks, seams, joints of bridges, wells, parking lots and airport runways. Advantages:
* application without heating and special equipment also in mild frost (up to -5 °C);
* wearing resistance is 6-8 times higher than bitumen mastics, and the service life is up to 5 years;
* elasticity and deep penetration into the pores of the road coating.
Thus, ‘CARBON’ closes local defects, and COMM solves the problems of pit and major repairs and, of course, preventive restoration measures.
Editorial conclusion.
The technologies, developed by LLC ‘Rich Chemical’, complies with Russian Standards and ODM requirements, saves the budget, reduces the carbon footprint and removes road RAP from the status of waste to the category of a valuable secondary resource.
